Neighborhood Revitalization Qualifications
Applicants of Habitat for Humanity of Teller County’s programs must meet and follow specific qualification guidelines. Below are the basic requirements for our Neighborhood Revitalization, Critical Home Repair, A Brush With Kindness, and Weatherization program. Read on to see if you qualify.
Applicant Requirements
There are two ways for us to determine eligibility for potential NRI partners. The first is the application process. The second is through our home visit. The following are the minimum requirements to be accepted for NRI services.
Applicant must…
- Be a homeowner and currently occupy the home in question.
- Have no intent to move out, sell, or rent their home for the next 3 years.
- Be at or below 60% Area Median Income (AMI).
- Be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Teller County.
- Complete a minimum required 8 hours of sweat equity for a project that’s estimated to last two days. For each additional estimated day there will be 2 hours of sweat equity.Sweat equity includes:
- Working alongside volunteers on NRI projects. This needs to be made clear to homeowners prior to the work beginning.
- Donating lunch, snacks, and drinks for volunteers- This is good for only one hour of sweat equity.
- Working in HFHTC office is only good for one hour of sweaty equity
- Be capable of making small monthly payments to Habitat for Humanity of Teller County to repay costs of supplies used.
- Complete a minimum required 8 hours of sweat equity for a project that’s estimated to last two days. For each additional estimated day there will be 2 hours of sweat equity.Sweat equity includes:
- Complete and submit an application.
- Request repairs within our scope that will benefit the homeowner, but won’t be affected by other deficiencies in the house. (If repairs will be ruined due to other problems with the home, such as a leaky roof, we will help the homeowner find the means of having those fixed first.)
- Be subject to a home visit and personal interview
Cost
If a family moves out or sells their home before the requested three years passes, they will be assessed a $500 labor fee unless the committee decides otherwise.
If a partner family cannot perform sweat equity on their own they may have friends or family member complete it for them. This will be subject to a case-by-case judgment by the committee or a group of office members.
