The local Habitat for Humanity affiliate received an AmeriCorp VISTA grant so in August we are delighted to have Alyssa Baker join our team as an AmeriCorp VISTA Volunteer.

Alyssa Baker is a recent graduate hailing from the University of Pittsburgh. She fell in love with non-profit work in 2009 when she became an aide for the elderly at St. Anne’s Nursing Home and never looked back.

Some of her proudest moments thus far have been at Pressley Ridge, a non-profit agency in Pennsylvania dedicated to supporting the emotional and behavioral health of traumatically stressed children and their adopted, biological, or foster families.

Most recently she interned with Greensburg Community Development Corporation and spent her efforts solely in the revitalization of her hometown. She focused on raising funds for local businesses and bringing residents into the growing cultural community.

Through her entire career though, Alyssa always found time to volunteer. This is how she discovered Habitat for Humanity and ultimately her passion. She has traveled through the East Coast building homes and relationships with deserving families and kind-hearted volunteers along her journey. She also served on the Pitt Habitat campus chapter executive board responsible for fundraising.

Alyssa is unbelievably grateful to find a position where she can make a difference, in a location she already holds very close to her heart.
