Despite a holiday week and rainy
weather we are making great progress at Las Casas. Some of our electronically gifted volunteers have installed lights and telephone wires. Others have helped install cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms and tile flooring for kitchens, entryways and bathrooms. Some have helped paint and install trim, hang doors, and paint interior walls.
We’re still planning to finish at Las Casas by the end of July and have outlined a schedule of projects that will help us make that goal a reality. Here’s the line-up:
- July 9-12 – Install trim and doors; apply exterior stucco
- July 16-19 – Install countertops and appliances
- July 23-26 – Install plumbing fixtures and flooring
- July 30-Aug 2 – Pour concrete and asphalt for parking lot
We will need all the volunteer help we can get to accomplish all this by the end of July. So check your schedules and join us if you can for as much time as you have to give, whether it’s an hour, a day, or a couple of days anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays, at 850 Forest Edge Rd. We welcome individual volunteers as well as groups who would like to spend a day working together. Whatever your skill level, we will find something for you to do.
As we wrap up the final phase of building at Las Casas, our board of directors is beginning discussions on what happens next. They will be looking at possible building locations as well as deciding how many homes to build. Stay tuned for more information on this.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped last week!
